Here are some design tips to help you make your home accessible and safe for children and seniors. Source: Houzz

One of the things that we suggest you keep in mind when planning your home interior design is how it will function for every member of your household and not just you. This means making your home accessible and safe for children and seniors. The following are a few tips for doing this:

  • Unique shapes – Don’t feel like you have to adhere to the traditional solid-surface rectangular shapes, which can be difficult for seniors to lean over as well as dangerous for children if they bump into them. Use curves and rounded edges to improve safety and accessibility and to provide a unique aesthetic.
  • Kneespace areas – Not everything has to be at the same height either. A kneespace area in the bathroom makes it easy for children to use the counter space and for those in wheelchairs to roll up.
  •  Lever faucets – Lever faucets are easier for children to use as well as individuals with arthritis.
  •  Layer lights – Lighting is important, especially since we need more of it as we age. Use layered lighting by implementing natural lighting, accent lighting and dimmers.

Use these design tips and contact us at Trilogy Partners today for additional home interior design advice.

Trust, collaboration, and flexibility are all integral parts to establishing a positive designer-client relationship.

Trust, collaboration, and flexibility are all integral parts to establishing a positive designer-client relationship.

Working with a designer can be a very rewarding experience as long as you realize that the designer-client relationship should be fostered from both sides. The following are a few tips that you should keep in mind in order to strengthen your relationship with your designer:

  • Be flexible – Be willing to listen to what your designer has to say – they may suggest you use a different material in order to keep your project under budget. By being flexible, you may be able to spend more on other features.
  • Have trust – Trust your designer. If he or she recommends something you are unsure about, give it a chance. For example, if a designer suggests you use a gray color instead of that bold blue you wanted, wait until the designer puts a sample up before drawing a conclusion – trust that your designer knows what he or she is doing.
  • Collaborate – Bounce ideas off of your designer. Collaboration usually results in some fantastic ideas that neither you nor your designer may have thought of without one another.

Use these tips in order to foster your designer-client relationship. For more information about working with a designer, be sure to contact us at Trilogy Partners.

In our client’s words:

We chose Trilogy Partners for our extensive remodel in Breckenridge for several reasons. We’ve seen their work in Summit County over the years and felt like it was a match for our visions. We’ve been pleased with the design skills of Michael Rath and his computer modeling that allows the client to make decisions based on a realistic picture of the project. Everyone has worked hard to bring the project to a successful completion, keeping the budget in mind, working with the subcontractors for the best outcome, and keeping the vision alive.

From the Design Build team:

This was a challenging remodel where we found ourselves undoing bad design but in a beautiful location, which is what drove the homeowners to this house. The design is inspired from Breckenridge’s mining history. Every design element of this home holds sentimental value to the owners. They were heavily involved in every step of the design. Some highlights from this house outside of the incredible location on the Blue River in Breckenridge are a mining ore cart powder room, copper bar and sink in the kitchen, adding a second floor loft to house a billiard table and the back patio fire pit created with an old mining bucket. The remodel also included a complete energy efficiency upgrade with new high efficiency windows throughout and closed cell foam insulation added to all the exterior walls and roof. An air exchange circulation system insures optimal indoor air quality. We had a lot of fun with the homeowners and are satisfied in knowing this home exceeds their expectations.

From our Design Build team:

Extensive remodel of a 1980’s chalet A frame into a mountain contemporary with all the latest design elements. Fantastic views of the ski area were almost forgotten until the redesign, which opened up the west wall with floor to ceiling windows. The before and after photos are compelling. Sometimes we can’t believe this house used to be that severely ugly yellow duckling.

From our Design Build team:

This 5500 square foot home was Designed and Built by Trilogy utilizing the design services and a timber and SIP panel kit from Woodhouse Post and Beam. As a SIP (Structural Insulating Panel) home, this house is incredibly energy efficient due to the solid foam and OSB exterior wall system that provides minimal air infiltration and exterior to interior temperature conduction, ideal for a high altitude environment. This wonderful timber frame home was specifically designed to accommodate a growing active family. An expansive deck and open floor plan are perfect for entertaining. Kids rooms on the upper level with a master suite in a separate “wing.”

From our Design Build team:

Perched high above Breckenridge at nearly 11,000 feet, this distinctively different house was a design collaboration between Bensonwood Timberframe and Trilogy Partners. This 4800 square foot home home features enormous structural timber crucks and a unique timber bridge structure connecting a garage and recreation room with the main house. Extensive use of reclaimed barn siding on the exterior. Another SIP (Structural Insulating Panel) home, this house is incredibly energy efficient and cozy despite its high alpine location.

How design + build works

  1. Identify the scope of work New construction or remodel, budget, square footage, specific features that are important to you.
  2. Develop concept This stage describes the scope of work and starts to build upon what your vision is identifying the style and features of your home.
  3. Budget This is perhaps the most important step to us. We want to end the trend that construction always goes over budget. Through our cutting-edge 3D digital modeling we can create a realistic budget that will be honored throughout the construction process because we already have the house built in the computer. We can make revisions to work within your budget, saving you both time and money from the back and forth between design firm and construction company, since we act as both.
  4. Design phase Architectural drawings, 3D modeling and interior design.During the design phase our clients play an integral role in the design and layout of their home. Design does not live in the designer’s head for you to trust them that they are honoring your vision and style, at Trilogy your design comes to life right in front of you through real time design sessions.

Have a seat with your own dedicated design team. Let your imagination fly while our designers bring your ideas to life. Create your dream space all with the comfort of knowing this project is within your set budget. Oh, but what’s all that going to cost?

Way back when, before we started designing and building homes, we were accountants. Went to business school. Became Quickbooks instructors.

And then we invested tens of millions of dollars in our own projects.

Rest assured, we put your money first. At Trilogy Partners you are continually kept in the loop and in control of your budget and your money. Our transparent budgeting and draw process sends clients bi-weekly emails that detail where the project budget is up to that very day. The email details any line item that is over or under budget and lists why. Your project accounting is always available online, in your personal “cloud” database.

And then we invented Project Management Modeling. Simply the best way to delivery a great product. At a great price. It’s money management reconsidered and redesigned.

Our PMM model provides the best estimating in the business. And the best way to manage construction. While others are continuing to manage obsolescence and legal issues resulting from bad estimating and project management, we invented a better way to control costs and improve onsite performance. The best way to handle change orders, although with PMM they are greatly reduced.

Our estimates are the most truthful in the business.

Total transparency, frequent draws, accurate and timely reporting and estimating. Advanced cost saving measures through emerging technologies such as PMM. Our our experience, our process, our reputation put your money first.
